Press Release

Brentwood Borough Council approves business case for six pitch football hub

Date: 22 December 2022

Plans to create six new football pitches as part of a new football hub are a step closer after the business case was approved at a meeting of the Community, Environment & Enforcement Committee earlier this week (19 December).

As part of the plans, the council would finance £2.7m of the cost with an application being made to the Football Foundation for match funding once the plans have gone through the planning process.

The six football pitches at the Brentwood Centre would be available for five main clubs in the Brentwood area with 157 teams at a reduced cost with the facility available for hire privately too.

The facility would include two 3rd generation artificial grass pitches and four standard grass pitches.

New toilets, changing rooms, kitchen and servery would also be built as part of the plans for the football hub, which if agreed at the planning stage -  could be open by the end of 2024.

Community, Environment and Enforcement Committee Chair, Cllr Will Russell said: "There are five main clubs in Brentwood, which have a total of 157 teams, within a three-mile radius of the Brentwood Centre. Of these teams there are 61 mini soccer teams, 80 youth teams, 14 adult teams and 2 disability teams. So, we have no doubt that there is demand for these facilities. I'm pleased we've passed the first milestone of agreeing the business case and I'm looking forward to seeing the full plans early next year."
