Fly-tippers caught on CCTV dumping waste at the Brentwood recycling centre face £3,000 fines.
On 18 December, the recycling centre at Warley was overwhelmed with rubbish - much of which was clearly not suitable for recycling.
The depot staff went to work on Monday clearing it all and sorting through to ensure that what had been dumped was properly disposed of.
Community, Environment and Enforcement Committee Chair, Cllr Will Russell said: “Several residents posted photos of the mess and as the signs clearly state at the depot, CCTV is operational. Thanks to the CCTV we have been able to effectively identify at least 8 people dumping rubbish. This is fly-tipping. It may not be dumping a mattress down a country lane but it is just as unacceptable.
"It is an offence and the total amount of fines that we are issuing comes to £3,000. I would urge everyone to go to our website to check their rubbish collections over Christmas and ensure that they dispose of their waste in the correct manner. I would also like to thank all those responsible residents that make the effort to recycle properly for the good of our environment.”
