Press Release

Brentwood Borough Council and Essex Police warn revellers about drink spiking

Date: 26 January 2023

Brentwood Borough Council together with Essex Police held an event in Brentwood high street last Friday night to warn residents about the potential danger of having drinks spiked while out for the evening.

A range of information and merchandise supporting the message were distributed and advice was given regarding what to spot and how to minimise the risk of becoming a victim.

Council officers from the Enforcement team were on hand to answer questions regarding the patrols and council responsibilities. The team undertake regular patrols around the borough together with the South Essex Parking Partnership to ensure that residents feel safe, illegal parking is ticketed and anti social behaviour spots are monitored.

Chair of the Community, Environment and Enforcement Committee, Councillor Will Russell said; “Brentwood Borough Council has a strong relationship with Essex Police that benefits the whole community. Brentwood has a significant night time economy and it is good to see our officers together with the police out in the evening like this to increase understanding of such an important issue as drink spiking. We all need to be vigilant and look after ourselves and our friends when we are out and about. I thank all those involved for their continued support of our residents and the borough as a whole.”
